Lisa Harris called the meeting to order at 8:40 am. Partnerships and contacts with external entities were the focus of this meeting, and were discussed at length. Items of concern: We do not have optimum communication and collaboration when we work with our strategic partners; The AASHTO partnership is not well coordinated; FHWA's and OPCD's relationships with our partners is not well understood and some means of reporting back to NLTAPA is needed; as communications improve, we need to focus on achieving better strategic value from our partnerships. Harris reviewed LTAP's major outside contacts and who are involved:
Harris said she would like the individuals in each of the above groups to have regular contact and to work together with the EC to develop strategies for working most effectively with these partners. Harris suggested every-other month calls or having communities of practice to improve communication. Some points from the discussion: AASHTO Strategy discussion: This is a complex and crucial partnership that generated a lengthy discussion; the current AASHTO liaison may not be at a high enough level in their organization to help both organizations get the most benefit. TCCC needs the type of course LTAP has developed. APWA Education Summit: Some non-EC NLTAPA members should be sent to this event. Walsh and Cady will develop a recommended participant list. LTAP-Customer Survey: Harris asked Drewes to have the External Communications Work Group prepare a proposal about the survey for the EC to vote on. She asked the EC to identify questions they would like to have answered in the proposal. The EC asked: How will the information be used? What are we proposing to achieve with the survey? What are the quantitative elements of the survey? How will respondents be selected? ARTBA: Grothaus suggested that the ARTBA Research Education Division and NLTAPA link up in some way. Communicating with Centers: The EC also discussed ideas for communicating with LTAP Centers about partnership activity. One ideas was to have a Web page on products/opportunities available from outside entities. Another was to have a Web page on the Association's partners with a list of the accomplishments as a result of the partnership, planned projects, names of liaisons, etc. Marie Walsh will complete the partnerships review and have recommendations for the EC on how to improve communications and avoid overlaps by the March conference call. Harris adjourned the meeting at 10:43 am. |
